STATEMENT BY THE HEART OF ALABAMA
COMBINED FEDERAL
CAMPAIGN REGARDING THE BOY SCOUTS
The following information is
offered in an effort to clear up some misunderstandings about the CFC and
the Boy Scouts programs locally and nationally.
In order to avoid competing
with its local Councils, the National
Boy Scouts organization does not raise funds through charitable giving
campaigns such as the CFC...only their local councils raise money. That's
why you do not see the Boy Scouts of America in the CFC’s National list.
The Tukabatchee Area Council
of Boy Scouts (the local Council in the Montgomery area) has been in the
CFC for many years. However, for internal reasons, the agency’s
management chose not to apply to participate in the 2007 CFC. The agency
will have the opportunity to reapply in 2008.
We also have another Scouts
organization in our campaign from the West Georgia area. They are the
Chattahoochee Council of Boy Scouts. The West area of Georgia has a CFC
whose border physically touches the Heart of Alabama CFC’s Eastern border
(i.e., Lee and Macon counties in our campaign touches their western
border). Campaign areas that touch each other in that way are called
“Adjacent Campaigns.” Agencies in adjacent campaigns may apply to each
other's campaign. So, the Chattahoochee Council of Boy Scouts has
applied and been approved for our campaign as well as its own. See page
74 of the Charity List for the Chattahoochee Council. Their new 5-digit
code is # 29194.
